Arts Program

The Arts Program used at school is based on the new  Ontario Government Curriculum Guidelines.  It includes a wide range of hands-on learning activities enhanced by a variety of mediums and materials(paints, chalk, pastels, paper, pencils, crayons, playdough, cookie decorating, jello jigglers and so forth).  We always welcome parent donations of craft supplies (see the Supply List section of this site for ideas) and even parent’s time to assist with activities.

Our program includes a large music component, again it is composed of a range of sources including CDs, instruments, and books.  In particular, on a weekly basis we follow the “Let’s Sing About It” series which includes a corresponding Big Book and CD.  All the song words can be viewed on our Smartboard to build on our language skills.   We use big books with rhythm patterns such as ta, ta, tee tah, rest, etc.  We have a set of musical instruments in our classroom (variety of drums, bells, sticks, tambourines, cymbals and so forth, mostly from my own children) and we always welcome new additions to our equipment.

Parents are always welcome to share their musical talents with the class, in the past, I had a parent who taught the class to play the tambourine.
